i’ve been podcasting youtube to pass the time at work and the topic of the season for me recently is programming-content. well, like the title suggests, I stumbled on Pirate Software’s channel and his gamejam.
i knew about the jam about a week before hand, so I had some time to think about what I might want to do, and I’ll get into the specifics later on.
I had also come off the heels of practicing making a tileset with a limited color palette based on this pinterest post. Then installed Tiled to test out my bootlegged tileset with imo good results!
the jam’s theme is: IT’S SPREADING
kind of interesting theme, what comes to mind is like a substance or entity corrupting the world.
I don’t really want to put a ton of brainmatter on making something mind-bending as far as implementation of the theme to gameplay. At the moment all I’m thinking of theme implementation is visuals and maybe story if I do dialogue boxes.
my plan
before the jam had officially started, I did some perusing of the godot asset library to see what I could use as my base and decided on Kenney’s Pixel Platformer. using this I have the easy part done.
As for the rest of the game, I’m thinking of making a single-screen platform game of escaping a world that is slowly changing.
Nothing fancy. Let me repeat that to myself, NOTHING FANCY.
let’s get started
Next steps for me is to make a couple of levels and think about the aesthetic a bit more as far as tiles and player sprites. I got 2 weeks to work on this, and imma try to be more casual and idk maybe have fun with the game jam development process haha
until next post!
