subdomains and rss feeds

i bought this shared hosting kind of on a whim but I’m glad i did now because i’ve learned how to subdomains after noodling around with the Softaculous installer. also I’ve rediscovered the oh so useful rss feeds.

Back when i last had shared hosting on hostgator, I was always overwhelmed with all the tools offered and stayed inside my walled wordpress garden. This time around however, i’m getting my money’s worth and exploring.

Specifically I was really interested in making another website as a subdomain within my existing domain. Not as another wordpress website (though i could use practice on that) but as another installation from Softaculous making some other kind of app.

ssl certificate (x1) used!

So i followed the steps and just created a subdomain, unbeknownst to me that it would kick in the extra year long ssl certificate i was saving for something else… pays to learn i suppose.

/sigh

at least it didn’t get used on something like testbutt.lampguitar.com but in the end this is just me testing the waters and learning, so no big deal.

freshRSS

so looking through the apps available for installation, i settled on a rss feed app called freshRSS. I configured the subdomain and after finagling with the redirect for a night (it was late, i should’ve just slept) i figured it out!

I was just installing this to test the waters with subdomains but after messing around in the app, I feel like this could be super useful. A distraction free way to get my feeds and then just move on without wondering if I had checked my favorite blogs.

i didnt think it was this easy

guess this is a win for softaculous for being a part of the tools I can use with my shared hosting. Now I’m seeing what else is on offer. Might peruse what they have for forums~

Anybut thats all i have for now, until next post!
